About

My name is Penelope Jordan and I am a 4th generation farmer in Southern Maine with a belief that together we can create a strong agriculture industry in Maine. Maine has the land, other natural resources and the ability to produce enough food for its people. I believe that over the next decade Maine agriculture will create new businesses, new jobs and help to build a strong Maine economy.

We have come a long way from 15 years ago when many farms were struggling and failing. We now have children of farmers wanting to carry on the family tradition as well as new farmers that are committed to becoming part of this great profession.

Consumers have played a significant role in this shift and in the creation of a more local food system.  We now need to work together once again on the next big shift — a 12 month proposition of buying and eating seasonally. This shift will help secure the viability and vitality of Maine farms.

This blog is intended to create awareness of the business side of farming, how we can work together to shift our farms to 12 month businesses (as they were when I was growing up) and how together (producers and consumers) we can secure our food system in Maine for generations to come!

Thank you for your commitment to farming in Maine and your support of local farmers like my granddaughter, Kelsey Herrington and Dominic Pascarelli of Two Farmers Farm.
    Sincerely,
    Marilyn Jones, Santa Barbara, Ca.
